Door County Ski Conditions

Weekly Cross Country Ski Report brought to you by Door County Silent Sports Alliance

Thursday February 11, 2010

Potawatomi State Park:

Conditions: Good striding track and skating lane. Freshly groomed February 10th after 5” of new snow. 100% coverage.

Crossroads at Big Creek:

3-4 inches of new snow. Trails were groomed February 10th. With the good base we have, it will be easy to get the skate lanes and track back in shape. Skiing will be very good from Thursday on. We are thankful for the nice new snow!

Cherry Hills Nordic Center:

4-5 inches of new snow. Last groomed February 10th. Skate lane is excellent. Diagonal tracks are excellent. Will set a track in the orchard tomorrow when the wind subsides. Looks like a great weekend for skiing.

Whitefish Dunes State Park:

Conditions are fair to good. Approximately 4 inches of new snow on February 9th. Trails were groomed and a new track set February10th. In the open areas, track varies from excellent to none due to drifting and areas blown free of snow. Trails in the woods are in the best condition. For latest trail conditions call the park at 823-2400.

Peninsula State Park:

Skiing is excellent. New snow: 3-4 inches. Last groomed February 10. As of this report, the yellow and orange loops were done, and the rest were being groomed, both classic and skate. Things should be looking great for this weekend!

Newport State Park:

We have received 4 inches of new snow but we had no base. There still has not been enough snow to groom the trail. There might be enough snow to ski but don’t use your best equipment.

Potawatomi State Park:

Ski conditions good for skating and classical. 1 inch fresh snow groomed February 3rd over old base. Striding track is set, new but shallow. Skating lane is groomed with fresh corduroy but there is some unevenness from last week’s thaw in the old base. The volunteers have done the best job possible with what Mother Nature provided.

Crossroads at Big Creek:

An inch of new snow fell Tuesday night, February 2nd. Trails have not been groomed since last Wednesday January 27th due to the fact the groomer was able to get them back in good condition after the rain. Skate lane and classic track both very good and fast. A couple of bare spots remain.

Cherry Hills Nordic Center:

Last groomed Wednesday, February 3rd. New snow of 1.5 inches fell February 2nd. Classic track good. Skate lane excellent. The new snow has rejuvenated the trails.

Whitefish Dunes State Park:

Following approximately 2” of new snow on February 2nd, trails are in fair condition. There is not enough new snow to lay a new track, so skiers are skiing in the new snow over what is left of the old track. When there is more snow the trails will be re-groomed and a new track will be set. For latest trail conditions call the park at 823-2400.

Peninsula State Park:

Part of the Purple loop is skate skiable, as is Middle Road, but that’s about it. The Yellow loop has been re-ground and smoothed out for the candle light hike that will take place Saturday evening February 6th. The rest of the trails are not in good condition.

Newport State Park:

Trails are open for hiking until we get snow.
